Anxiety can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to manage it alone. Let’s talk. A free 20-minute consultation can help you feel supported and seen.
If depression is obsessing about things in the past, anxiety is constantly worrying about things that may or may not happen at some point in the future.
For example, people with anxiety may become overly focused on whether or not they will be recognized for their accomplishments at work, find happiness in their chosen career, reach milestones in relationships, or find themselves in uncomfortable social situations.
These worries can manifest as physical behaviors such as restlessness or insomnia, and if left untreated, chronic anxiety can lead to panic disorder. Symptoms of panic disorder are similar but more intense than panic disorder.
Whereas untreated stress could lead to a helpful state that can help drive us to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines, avoiding anxiety therapy could lead to a debilitating condition that can include obsessive thoughts and behavior, worries, confusion, difficulty concentrating, pacing, and/or restlessness.
People report increased irritability, frustration, and despair during anxiety counseling. A person with anxiety may even experience physical manifestations, such as trembling, sweating, a racing heartbeat, nausea, and difficulty breathing.
Additionally, anxiety can lead to headaches, insomnia, digestive problems, and lightheadedness. A severe and sudden onset of symptoms is typically referred to as a “panic attack.”
Silicon Valley residents! Chronic anxiety is the product of subtle or explicit traumas during childhood or early life. Research shows that anxiety therapy is usually the most effective treatment for anxiety disorders because, unlike medication, anxiety counseling and therapy treat the root cause and not just the symptoms of the problem; that’s where our Palo Alto practice comes in.
In confidential sessions, Azizeh focuses on uncovering the underlying causes of worries and fears. When an individual begins to identify the sources of anxiety, Azizeh teaches reframing techniques that look at situations in new, less frightening ways.
Azizeh can help address the many components that predispose people to anxiety – society, genetics, culture, and individual upbringings. She focuses on developing better coping and problem-solving skills, tailored to each individual’s personal anxieties. Implementing these skills can greatly reduce anxiety symptoms, making it easier to experience triggering situations in a more productive way. With a direct approach and a willingness to change, most people can overcome debilitating anxiety and live the full life they have always dreamed of.
